River Smallmouth Island Camping Part 1
I used to do more of these Island Camping Fishing Trips when I was in my 20's. Back then, I packed a tent. The hammock is a much more comfortable option that sets up and tears down fast. This river smallmouth fishing trip is on the Juanita River in Pennsylvania. Part 1 is the first day, leading up to my sleeping in the hammock on an island in the river. Day 2 is the following episode. Be sure to catch that one too when it releases.

Susquehanna Smallmouth July Rising Water Patterns

I had not been on the Susquehanna since February, and had a day to hit the Harrisburg area. I stayed well below the "in-bounds" region of the Bassmaster Kayak Series event that started the following day to give those competitors room to prefish. In all, I covered over 14 miles, up and back from the West Fairview launch. Targeting smallmouth in grass beds and turbulent convergences of current br...

Bass Fishing and Hammock Camping on a Small River

I never want to leave the river at the end of the day. This time I didn't. On a small river, a creek really in Missouri I fished from 4 pm to dusk, stayed out there and slept in my @boonedoxusa241 Drifter Hammock, woke up the next morning and continued my fishing adventure. Somewhere in the mix, I hooked and lost what would have been the largest flowing water largemouth I've caught. Occasionall...

Road Trip to Oklahoma River Bass Fishing

This trip start in Maryland, goes through North Carolina, includes a roof top tent stay in a Lowe's parking lot near Knoxville, Tennessee, then moves onward through Arkansas and into Oklahoma. That's where I target smallmouth, largemouth and spotted bass in a small river where I camp on the inside bend on a gravel bar.
5 Tips for Low Water Float Trips
Переглядів 1,7 тис.21 день тому
If you have kayak fished rivers long enough, you have had to deal with super low water and dragging through long sections instead of completing an actual "float" trip. These five tips from @roadtripangler Jameson Redding and myself will help you enjoy these conditions without the struggle of a 10 mile shin bashing death march.
Low Water Death March Float Trip

10.3 mile hike, not 10.3 mile float trip. That's what we did. The bite was decidedly off, but we had fun on a beautiful small Virginia river. It was pretty much a trip to the aquarium, with super clear water, we got to see all that this fishery had to offer, even if they weren't ready to play. We will be back. Lot's of 20 plus inch smallmouth in this small water. We just couldn't catch them in ...

Roadtrip Recap: Boondocking Saves You $$$!!!
@thelittlestuff building my nrs pike currently and was wondering is it possible to buy just the foot control kit and if so where would you suggest getting it from?
Pre ordered my new travel ultralight in February. It arrived this week. Right out of the box, I cant use it. The battery doesn't charge. On top of that, was told when I ordered the expected ship date was May. Then April. Then June. Then July. Very frustrating and disappointing experience. I hope they can get me taken care of...
This will be good ! I camped on the Susky 2 years ago and it was one of the best trips I’ve ever had in my life
Any good bank fishing areas?
Lots of areas on the Susquehanna are great for wading.
Thanks for topical content. I was able to apply these concepts on the Juniata yesterday. Not many, but I put some nice fish in the boat
Glad to hear of your success. Keep at it!
Another informative video. Hey do you use your skeg fin on upgrade inflatable like the Kuda in shallow water where you might have to drag?
I’m not into using the fixed skegs. It ruins the “shallow draft” aspect of these boats.
Hey Jeff nice set up. I am looking to get one of this. Without the toquedo setup low budget.
You get what you pay for. The Kuda is a great option. For a more durable option, look at the Innovative Sportsman inflatable kayaks.
Hey Jeff I was talking about the one coda not typhoon. My bad for mis leading so what you think about this cuda?
The Kuda is a stable platform that goes very shallow. I had to patch it a few times. They were slow leaks, so there was no impact on my day of fishing. I cover how to patch them in many videos in the Inflatable Kayaks playlist.
Jeff thanks for the video and your time once again. Other than not having your rods set up at the beginning, you haven't skipped a beat on helping others fish the river better. Meaning myself. Hope to see ya on the river.
Glad you’re improving Brendan. Thanks for the nice comments.
Gosh, I wish I had a river like that close. I live in Todd NC and have the New River here, but my area doesn’t produce much. I’d have to float all the way to Virginia for the fishing to get better.
The Susquehanna is special. That being said, I think that it’s more likely to catch a 6 plus out of the New than the Susquehanna. You must not be too far from some great eastern TN rivers too.
@@TheLittleStuff Yeah, it’s not too far to go. Just wish my direct area was better. Apparently from the locals, Boone sucks out thousands of gallons for App State and other businesses rendering the river very low.
Welcome back
Thanks! Feels good!
Welcome back to the Susky, Jeff! Been waiting for a video on your home turf again! Hoping to get back out there and try the Little Stuff tips again, but nice to be on the river with ya via video! Thanks! :-)
Right on Scott! Juniata is next. Got two very good ones coming!
Jeff my man love your instructions, advices, and videos. I want to get an inflatable. What is ur honest opinion? I looked at the NRS typhoon 106. How durable is inflatables what happens if you get a leak? I float all the rivers and it’s tributaries in middle TN.I look forward to hearing from you.
I searched “Typhoon” on the NRS website and didn’t find anything. That being said, inflatables are tougher than you might think, but not indestructible. Fish fin puncture is the most common issue, and it’s a slow slow leak. If you do manage to have a larger rupture, the on the water fix is to use Tear Aid Type B, and a K-Pump mini to get back to inflation. Please check out my entire playlist “Inflatable Kayaks” to learn more. Also know that I designed the hulls of the Innovative Sportsman kayaks to be more durable- double layered in certain key areas.
Great content Jeff! Just curious if your experience tends to be such that you feel the bite in these rivers is better later in the day and near dusk as opposed to the early morning bite? I am also interested in the preference of smallies eating better in cloudy vs sunny skies. There is a lot of tradition in bass fishing and some of it is not accurate. It seems that we catch more fish in sunny sky weather in the streams than cloudy days and I wonder if that is the same for you or not? Thanks,
It’s all over the place. I tend to have better evening bite on the Susquehanna. Now on the next two videos, I stay out and camp on an island in the Juniata. I do so-so for the dusk bite, but absolutely crush them from 5:30 am through almost noon. As we move into late summer and early fall, the river holds a fog, or at least the mountains hold some low clouds late into the morning, which absolutely helps until it burns off. The grass beds make more oxygen as the sun hits it, and they love hunkering down in those areas on a sunny day.
Yes on the OD. Yesterday, as a matter of fact. Wanted to go back after dark to catfish but.....
another great video, thanks! I gave the Billy goat lure a try, and had a great time, thanks for the tip! topwater fun without the snags and danger of treble hooks! here is a short video of my billy goat fun! ua-cam.com/video/PnG4QhIhBr0/v-deo.html
Glad you figured them out on your homecoming.
Me too! Fun, long day.
What a marathon of a day. Were you able to fish on a single battery? From the bowels of Harrisburg to above Rockville is quite a distance to cover going against the current. The perseverance paid off.
I brought two but only used one. It’s that inflatable. Seven years of testing different boats led me to design the Osprey, then the Peregrine. The Peregrine does so much more speed and range with the same amount of power. I got this one right.
North Branch of the Susquehanna is better. Harrisburg the current is too fast.
Headed there next!
Taking care of the " Little Stuff "leads to more enjoyable days on the water......
I just had two in a row!
Baby 1 minus are discontinued also unfortunately.
Really? What’s wrong with fishing? The baits that work get discontinued! Sales numbers dictate this. Bummer.

Why is it that we never see you setting the hook on the fish
I don’t film continuously. I call out “Go Pro start recording” and that’s how most action clips start. It lets me be as prolific as I am. I average over 200 videos a year. Many of those are an hour long. If I filmed the whole time, I might pull off a video or two each month. It’s common to hear of kayak anglers who film but don’t produce that much say, “I’ve got some amazing footage. I just need enough time to edit”. My edit on a one hour video takes about 5 hours between the three cameras I use. I also blow through about $2K in hard drives each year. That would easily quadruple if I continuously filmed.
Hi there Jeff. Enjoyed this video. It’s good you are back home putting up videos on the Susquehanna
I’ve missed it, but the trade off is that I’ve enjoyed some amazing fisheries away from home this year.
Your subsurface bait looks to be a 1-5 foot with that plastic angle up front. For instance if you look at a Strike King Hybrid Hunter Jr. look how the angle is about 90 degree. I looked at these recently and purchased one that is marker “S” on the bottom of the lure. It’s a little confusing the way Strike King markets them but you want the shallow 1-3 feet runner that is marked with an “S” on the bottom! Otherwise the regular one runs a little deeper. And I have nothing to do with Strike King just started looking for a real shallow sub surface lure for river fishing. Or try heating that lip on yours and bend it slightly down there are UA-cam videos on modifying the lips. Hope this helps and thanks for all your excellent teaching and videos!!! High Noon
I’ll check out the Strike King ones.
Yeah you can make some real cool wake baits from pretty much any crankbaits great post. Great vid as always Jeff.
Jeff, have any Night Fishing content planned for the future?
Close! I fish into the dark and before the sun comes up on the next two videos.
@@TheLittleStuff Cool, looking forward to it.
Thanks!
Thank you George!!
Is the susky back up after the rain storms? Nice fish there!
I’ve been watching the gauge prediction page keep bumping up. I’ll need some flow later this week to get some whitewater practice in ahead of an ACA class I have coming up.
Great video!
Thank you John.
Why do some smallies have red eyes and some not? Do the eyes function differently thereby making some more vulnerable to techniques that might not appeal to others???
Not sure. It’s a thing though - some have red eyes, some don’t.
What creek in poplars bluff where you starting at?
I'd like to know how much that boat is and where I can get some brochures and information on it
It’s all on the Innovative Sportsman website.
By far... of all the great anglers you have followed and shared the experience with us... this one with Tim is the best yet!! We have amazing creeks/rivers here in Ohio in which you endure the EXACT SAME EXPERIENCE, if not worse, just to adventure to find the bigger fish and not only that... your more or less chasing the thrill of it!! Awesome video guys keep it up!
Stephen, There are some older videos with Tim if you dig around. He’s a tough dude with a great attitude!
I stash an AirTag deep in my kayak with sticky tape. (In addition to cables like you described)I do it with many items, and stash in locations ppl would never think of. I will even disassemble and place inside high value items. (It’s a pain when the battery needs replacing) 😂Someone steals it, I’m coming for it… Cheap insurance really. You can even set alerts if it leaves a set boundary. Ways to beat, but most criminals are stupid. The ones stealing kayaks are anyway..
That’s brilliant!
I comment? Bro you killed it
Just stumbled on this video and def a game changer. Wanna sell any of those kayaks? Especially that shoalie? 😂
Good job man!!! That 22" incher was scary to watch! What a fish though! Congrat's on all your wins! Fish on!
I think that was the best fish fight sequence I’ve filmed.
I like your method of fishing creeks and rivers with the motorized inflatables. This removes the need for shuttle driver or second car with a buddy. What is your upstream range in conditions like those in this video? I’d use it to motor up while throwing lures and drift back while fly fishing. Could I anchor in that current and stand and pick apart a section with the fly rod or is anchoring only feasible on still water? Thank
I did 14.3 miles last week - about 7 upstream then float back downstream. That was in heavy flow from a thunderstorm
I experienced one of my greatest top water fish last Sunday,.The whopper Plopper and he hit it hard. Scored my personal best 18" small mouth in the Wrightsville area. Now I definitely want more.
Right on! We just drove over that section on our way to our son’s basketball tournament in Spooky Nook. Great water, especially upstream!
@@TheLittleStuff one of the best small mouth fisheries in my opinion

I need a couple of those usb c adapters. I wonder if they'll make a pigtail so you can run 2 gopro cameras off one battery
wtf with that soap in the river man, they make products that bio degrade and stuff. dog we gotta care more about the rivers we love than that cause there is more of uss all the time.

Not sure. This show is for previews of soon to be released products. I suggest you check with the manufacturer website and/or customer service.
The Torqeedo website says that it will be available on Aug. 8th. However, take that with a grain of salt. Waiting patiently since April.
Just got my shipping confirmation and scheduled to arrive on Aug. 9th! Stoked!
Thanks
What color are you using for the 7” jerk shad
Pearl. I’ve caught them on pink too.
Insane! What a great video! Wish my ka-hoon-ays were big enough to adventure like this! :D
Hope you’re doing well Christie. I saw your name in a TN AOY list recently.
Tim and that net had me laughing this whole video!!!😂 I lost mine as well.
Mine sits in front of me. Easy to reach, doesn’t usually get caught on stuff.
favourite video of yours ever! it was so nice to see how he approaches such a small creek. we have a lot of those in Quebec. can’t wait to see what is in em.
Glad you are one of the few that doesn’t overlook small water. Thanks for watching!
Great footage, Jeff! I interviewed Tim for the recap and he told me to look for this footage. Love it!!!
This one was a tough one to film and not fish! Knowing when to switch from power to finesse is so critical.
What’s thoughts on commander?
It’s a classic that should have never been discontinued. Unfortunately, sales numbers are the only performance metric that matters. Diversity of design for specific types of fisheries peaked in the mid 2010’s. Since then, many if not most kayak manufacturers have chased some other manufacturers #1 top seller. That created an echo chamber of many 12.5 foot super wide, primary stability kayaks with the seat perpetually in the high position. The Commander 140 was a staple of my summer time river fishing when I started filming kayak fishing. I was a fool to let it go without getting a backup while they were available. But I do have this other boat. And it’s pretty cool too.
